Met Police Infiltrate AEGIS Marketplace, Seize Website
The Metropolitan Police's Cyber Crime Unit has successfully infiltrated and seized AEGIS Marketplace, a website that had been selling illegal drugs online.
The Operation
The operation, which began in June 2025, targeted the online marketplace that allowed individual sellers to market drugs for sale to users who could make purchases using cryptocurrency. By March 2026, the site had 30 active sellers and had facilitated an estimated 10,000 drug sales in just ten months, with an estimated annual turnover of almost £2 million.
Infiltration and Seizure
Through investigative work, Met Police officers managed to infiltrate the site and retrieve server data, leading to the identification of administrators, sellers, and customers. The site has now been seized, and anyone trying to access it is met with a banner announcing "this website has been seized".
Prosecutions and Next Steps
The Met Police's Economic and Cyber Crime Unit is now working to bring prosecutions against those found to have used the site to commit offences. The unit's Head, Will Lyne, emphasized the police's commitment to disrupting criminal networks.
"The infiltration of this illegal marketplace is evidence of our dedication to disrupting criminal networks," Lyne said. "We are determined that there will be no safe spaces, including online, where the buying and selling of drugs and other illegal items goes undetected and unpunished."
