Georgia Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attempting to Sell Teen on Dark Web

A 43-year-old Georgia man, Kelly Garrett Ivey, has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 50 years to be served, after pleading guilty to multiple child sex crimes.

The Crimes

Ivey was sentenced for crimes committed in both Monroe and Jasper counties. According to the Ocmulgee District Attorney's Office, Ivey pleaded guilty to:

  • Trafficking of persons for sexual servitude
  • First-degree cruelty to children
  • Criminal attempt to commit rape
  • Other charges

The Investigation

The case came to light in 2023 when Ivey was accused of attempting to sell a 16-year-old girl on the dark web on a site called "Slave Bay." He posted a picture of the girl on the site, offering to share personal details, including her school and vehicle information, for a price. The goal was to facilitate her kidnapping and sexual assault.

The Charges

The indictment revealed that there were at least two other alleged victims. Ivey used the girl's social media posts and photos to solicit child molesters, demonstrating a deliberate plan to exploit her.

The Intervention

Fortunately, the FBI intervened and stopped Ivey's plans. The victim's mother expressed shock and gratitude, saying she had no idea Ivey had such intentions, despite him being a volunteer at their church.

The Impact

The victim's mother shared her experience, saying:

"I'm always worried about other places, when you go on vacation, when you go here and go there, but it happened here, right around us."

She emphasized the importance of sharing their story to prevent others from going through similar ordeals:

"If I can protect one person to tell the story, I don't want anybody, anybody, to go through what we are going through right now."

The Sentence

The life sentence with a minimum of 50 years reflects the severity of Ivey's crimes and the need to protect society from individuals who pose a significant threat to children's safety.
